i'm installing a mmorpg game on my laptop yesterday and when i try to play the game it says:

switching to the reference rasterizer, a software that implements the Direct3D feature set, but runs very slow"

It seems thata you dont have the graphic drivers installed.  Try to install it first then do a recheck...

Unistall direct x and the game reboot defrag reboot install game again follow instructions on anything the games ask you to do in order to play the game.
If it doesnt work wipe the computer or try installing the game on another computer and check to see if you still have the same problem
