I am an electrical engineering student.I wanted to buy a laptop, and I have narrowed my choice down to Thinkpad t410 and macbook pro.Going by the size of the RAM or harddisk, Macbook pro beats the Thinkpad(The indian configuration of thinkpad t410 has 2GB DDR3 whereas macbook pro has 4GB DDR3.Actually the macbook pro beats the thinkpad as far as the configs are concerned).I do a little bit of programming as well, hence I keep it on for a long time.I am not very much into looks as well. And more importantly I do not play a lot of games. My applications do not find a lot of difference with the processors as well,i3 or i5 do not make a lot of difference to me(I am still a student, guys).I do have a bit of experience working with linux systems. So working on mac may not be very difficult for me.I have been doing a lot of graph plotting(Using GMT or ferret) and data analysis as well(Usually RADAR data). I am seriously confused as to which laptop to buy,Thinkpad or MBP?If I buy a thinkpad what will I be missing out??The same question applies to Macbook pro. For scientific research, will the Mac book have any advantage or not?I do not do any animation. As I am an electronics student I do use a few hardware programming softwares like Xilinx ISE which require Windows. So If I buy a mac I will have to dual boot it with windows. Not to forget, If I use a Thinkpad I will have to use both windows and Linux. So, which laptop do you recommend??And please give me a reason to buy whichever you recommend cuz I am seriously confused!THINKPAD T410 or MBP??

I really think you should get the macbookpro why because it has more features and a little bit more ram.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the MBP.  You can dual boot windows if you need too, and it's faster.

I actually had the same question a few days ago. in attempting to find the solution I stumbled upon a way to get an Apple Macbook Pro for free from http://www.themacbookprogiveawayweb.tk. mine is scheduled to ship in 6 days & I can't wait.

Good luck and have a new phone

I bought this ASUS K53E-B1 laptop because I believe that it was the best for my needs and I'll try to describe what type of consumer it would fit best. I needed a laptop that would stay at home most of the time but I would take to the library or class every once in a while. I am not a gamer or photo/video editor so the integrated graphics were perfect for my needs. Another reason I bought this laptop was because of the great battery life which lasts about 6hrs and during that time the laptop never became warm.

Pros:
-Fast core i5 sandy bridge processor
-Durable and beautiful design
-Good battery life (6hrs)
-Extended Warranty

Cons:
-Screen is too glossy but still looks fine unless you're outside in the sun
-integrated graphics
