Using graphing technology, create your own quadratic equation whose graph opens down and crosses the x-axis at two points. Use complete sentences to explain what piece of the quadratic equation causes its graph to open up or down. Approximate the coordinates of the vertex and x-intercepts of the parabola.

I dont need the complete sentences but i need an equation. idk how to do this ): . thanks so mucch (:

Two times the graph should cross the x-axis = two solution for the quadratic equation.

(x +a) (x +b) = 0

Arbitrarily, I'll pick  a= 5, b=8.

(x+5) (x+8) = 0

The solutions are x=-5, x=-8.

(x+5) (x+8)=
x^2 +8x +5x + 40 =
x^2 + 13x +40

y-intercept is when x = 0.

0^2+13*0 + 40 =
40

y-intercept=40

It opens up because the coefficient on x^2 is positive.
