[9.06]Using graphing technology, create your own quadratic equation whose graph opens down and crosses the x-axis at two points. Use complete sentences to explain what piece of the quadratic equation causes its graph to open up or down. Approximate the coordinates of the vertex and x-intercepts of the parabola.

In the function y=ax² + bx + c, the coefficient a determines what happens to y as the absolute value of x increases. So if a is negative the graph of y will open down, while if a is postive then the graph will open up. The vertex is where the graph reaches a minimum or maximum, and has
coordinate (-b/(2a);c). x-intercepts are where y=0 that is where x=(-b-√(b²-4ac))/(2a) and x=(-b+√(b²-4ac))/(2a)
