I had bought a Vizio TV two and a half years ago. And now it will not turn on. The logo lights up then turns off. I have very limited electrical knowledge. So I guess what I am asking is:

How hard is it to change capacitors if they are blown? I know its cheaper to do it your self and that the uf must match and that you can go above the voltage on the capacitors in the device... but is it something that anyone can do? or should I just take it in?

See my Dilemma? A 20-60 cent part plus a 6 dollar Soldering iron verses a 100-200 dollar repair bill.

As you mentioned, you have limited knowledge of electrical. So how do you know that it is the capacitor on your tv that is broken and needs to be replaced. Those bargain price tv are not very dependable. More that likely it is the power circuit board that is broken on your tv. This is a common issue on bargain price tv. It is not cost effective to repair than just buying a new tv, providing you do not know what to fix or repair the tv. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems are from those bargain price tv. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs. Hope this will help you out.
