Can I put a 75-watt bulb in a 57-watt light fixture?

I have a 57-watt light fixture and a 75-watt bulb. I'm disinclined to go out and look for a bulb with the correct wattage, but I'm even less inclined to perish in a fire. Help me, internauts.

Purchase a newer florescent type bulb.
They use less wattage and last longer.
The heat from a regular 75 watt bulb will over time cook the socket.

I wouldn't recommend it. You can go to SearsPartsDirect.com to find the correct wattage bulb that you need or to your local Sears Parts and Service Center (not the retail store as they do not carry any parts whatsoever) as well.

The additional heat will stress whatever caused the manufacturer to set 57 watts as the recommended limit. That said, it tends to be a melting thing rather than an outright fire. Tends to be.......
Can you remove the shade or otherwise make it safer until you have a chance to pick up a lower wattage bulb?
