I have a Samsung home theater surround sound system (model HT Z320) that comes with 4 speakers, a center channel and sub, 1000 watts total. I'm looking at mounting the speakers on my ceiling with the wires running mostly through the ceiling in my condo with all of them converging in the wall behind the TV and back out  to connect them to the receiver.

I'm not exactly sure which gauge of wire I should be using.  The living room itself is about 13'x15' and I know the shorter the distance the higher the gauge, but I have to take into account the distance the wires will run through the attic and walls/ I plan on just connecting the speaker wire to the cut wires attached to the speakers with butts and electrical tape.

Should I go with a 14 gauge wire for something like this?  Also, any recommendation on wire brand would be appreciated.

14 gauge wire is more than sufficient for your needs.

Those home theater in a box speakers are not very demanding in power. Yes, the 14 gauge wire will work fine. Hope this will help you out.

14 gauge would be more than enough... but it can't hurt to go to 12.

If it isn't much more expensive, it's always best to go with the biggest (ie, lowest) gauge wire you can get.  After all, you can never have too much bandwidth in the cables.

The others are right though, if you don't want to pay for 12, 14 will certainly be enough for you!

Good luck
