I love the quality of pictures that can be achieved with Digital SLRs but I don't want such a bulky camera, just something I can stick in my purse that won't actually take up the entire thing, so I'm wondering what would be a good camera that has video capabilities?  Not too concerned about prices.  My dad recently purchased a cheaper Canon point and shoot and it takes way better pictures than any of my two previous Olympus cameras.  I don't know much about what features to look for but I am leaning towards the Canon brand.  Your thoughts?

I'd suggest the Canon Powershot S95. It's pocketable, has a nice lens with a minimum aperture of f/2 and good clarity, and manual exposure controls. It can also record videos in HD. It costs right about $400.

The best thing to do is visit your local camera shop (not an electronics store) and hold and try the different models to see which you like best. The people at the camera store will be able to answer your questions.

If I was in your spot, I would look at something like the Canon G12 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/734743-REG/Canon_4342B001_PowerShot_G12_Digital_Camera.html ), the SX30 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/734782-REG/Canon_4344B001_PowerShot_SX30_IS_Digital.html ), or the S95 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/729876-REG/Canon_4343B001_PowerShot_S95_Digital_Camera.html ).

Hey,

All DSLRs have clear pictures, but if you can't take them, it won't help.

Video - Most of them shoot in Full HD, if not, then HD. It rocks.

Here's a DSLR Buying Guide - http://www.the-dslr-photographer.com/2009/11/which-dslr-to-buy/

Canon EOS Rebel T3
Excellent camera for beginners. Very easy to use menu interface, very crisp pictures even with kit lens, and fast shutter speed. The main differences between the t3 and the t2i-- lack of a rubber grip, 720p video vs 1080p video, 100k dots on lcd display vs 1m, 3 shots/sec vs 3.7 shots/sec-- are hardly noticeable. If anything, I'm thinking of putting the money I saved towards a sexy lens! I am very happy with this purchase.
