I asked this same question before, slightly reworded, but no suitable answer was forthcoming, so here I am again. I have a brand new computer (desktop, custom) with a fresh install of windows 7 home premium. The problem is that whenever I try to do a dual display configuration, windows says it can't save the display configuration. It will switch between the two monitors, and they both work fine. The description for the graphics card (AMD Radeon 6670) says it supports up to 4 simultaneous displays. I have all the latest drivers installed for all the hardware on the system, but it just won't work. Anyone have any ideas? @ashley: I tried both, but in the ATI configuration panel, I couldn't find anything about multi-display. The only thing that I found was their Hydra system, which allows you to carve a single monitor into multiple displays. But nothing for two monitors. @johnf: read the whole question. I specifically put in the details that the card is capable. @jimmymae2000: Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't have an on-board graphics chip. @Zenon/Alex: How could I tell if the MB isn't capable of supporting it? It is a very new board, fairly mid-line (Not bottom of the barrel, not best in the world.) And I have had dual display out of ancient computers (Including a ten-year-old eMachines.)

are you trying to change the setting in the windows display configuration or in the ATI control panel?

Maybe it isn't possible with your video card.

just because the graphics card can do it doesnt mean the motherboard is capable of supporting that much data. might be a hardware issue.

If your graphic card is an add in, and the computer motherboard also has a graphic chip on it, there may be a conflict where the operating system doesn't know which display configuration to use. If that could be the case then you may need to disable the motherboard graphic chip, this can be done in the Control panel, System, Device Manager.

Your motherboard may not support it.

in control panel/hardware/display , select change display settings. You should see two monitors in the graphic, then under " multiple displays" it should be set to ~ extend these displays.
I have an nvida card not ATI , but what I listed is windows settings so I wouldn't expect it to be different. Whats odd is when I plugging monitor 2 it automatically found it and I didn't have to change any settings. Do you have a card AND onboard video? This is how my system is and I have one monitor connect to the card and one to the onboard and they work very well together.

Right click the desktop and click screen resolution, then click the drop-box, and click on the second monitor, then check the box that says, Extend my desktop onto this display and it should be working. If not, then check the cords, restart your computer, or even unplug the monitors, and switch the cords to them.

How big are the monitors? What resolution are you trying to use? Does your video card have two ports? Are they digital or analog? Are you "mirroring/duplicating" the displays or "extending" them? If you have onboard video, have you disabled it in the BIOS? Try this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976064
